Dielectric resonator (DRs) are widely used in based stations since they can offer high Q factor and feature high power handling. However, they often suffer from bulky size and heavy weight. Since a large amount of filtering circuit are needed in wireless systems, such as the 5G massive MIMO system, the size and weight reduction is of great importance. Aiming at this problem, two filtering circuits are designed by using the same sets of resonators and they can be integrated as one dual-channel circuit accordingly. The EM-filed properties of DR are studied for guiding the realization of isolation between two channels. By using this method, the number of DRs and cavities are reduced. Compared to the conventional two independent filtering circuits, the size of the presented dual-channel circuit can be reduced by more than 40% and thus, the weight and cost are also substantially reduced. This talk focuses on the design techniques for the DR-based dual-channel filtering circuits. The design examples with a variety of configurations will be presented.
