Strong optical confinement to the low-index slot, such as Er_xY_(2-x)SiO_5, is expected for guided TM mode. The confinement effect leads to modification of the optical mode density, resulting in the enhancement of radiative transition. We have fabricated slab Si-slot waveguides with Er_2SiO_5 slot layers in order to demonstrate the dependence of radiative emission on the guided waveguide modes. The PL fine structure particular to Er_2SiO_5 crystal has been observed through the waveguide structure. We confirmed the enhancement of the TM mode edge emission, and the intensity was about two times higher than that of TE mode.
