Five Years and Counting The Evolution of WSSC's PCCP Management Program

To date, WSSC's PCCP Management Program has proven successful in identifying and repairing numerous pipe sections in states of varying distress in an efficient, safe and cost effective manner. Through these efforts, WSSC has essentially eliminated failures on PCCP pipes that are actively managed through the Program described in this paper. Not only has the Program significantly reduced the risk of PCCP transmission main failures, it also extends the useful life of these assets while deferring significant capital costs. The message frequently communicated by senior WSSC management is that the Program is safely managing large diameter PCCP for approximately 6% of the replacement value (5).
