A Review on Extraction and Purification of Carotenoids from Fruit Pomace

摘要

Carotenoids are groups of important bioactive compounds with many physiological functions as antioxidant, anti-aging, and preventing cancer or cardiovascular disease. There are large amount of fruits in China, and their processing wastes contain plenty of carotenoids. However, these wastes are just discarded or processed to animal feeds, causing the environmental pollution and resources waste. So it is something of far-reaching value in practice. For the high effective extraction from fruit pomace, many kinds of advanced technologies of extraction and purification have been reviewed in this paper, including their advantages and disadvantages. The analysis results indicated that supercritical carbon dioxide method was appropriate for extraction;Macroporous Resin adsorption and HPLC will be the future trends of the carotenoids purification, and this research indicated the direction of the industrialized developments.
