Development of a model for central nervous system regeneration in the roundworm C. elegans

We establish a model in the roundworm C. elegans for lesion conditioning, a well-known but poorly-understood form of neuronal regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system. Using laser surgery, calcium imaging, and optogenetics we relate lesion conditioning to a type of aberrant neuronal outgrowth in C. elegans.
