Development of Screening Model for Evaluating Soil Remediation Technologies

Rapid advancement of our economy and industrial processes has improved the quality of life worldwide. However, the problem associated with such advancement is the deterioration of our environment in particular extensive soil contamination. Contaminated soils pose significant risk to the surrounding environment and the resident population. Numerous technologies have been developed to remediate the soil contaminated by different sources. This project focuses on the development of a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to screen and evaluate remediation technologies for contaminated soils. Various factors must be considered when choosing the most appropriate remediation technology; failure to do so can dangerously exacerbate the initial problem. Thus, it is critical to have a clear notion of the available technologies, and the advantages and drawbacks of each process. The developed interactive tool can make significant contributions to reduce time and errors in determining adequate solutions for soil remediation. Such a tool can complement and aid engineers and project managers to compare and verify the results obtained through traditional methods and professional judgment.
