New energy efficiency technologies associated with increased natural gas demand in delivery and consumption sectors of Iran

Increasing population together with economic growth in many developing countries has caused rapid changing of their energy consumption patterns in recent years. As a result, the conventional systems of energy supply have become inadequate to deal with rising energy demand. This rapid demand growth has affected energy markets, too. Accordingly production, distribution and management of energy are changing dramatically and earlier concepts are being replaced with new energy efficiency and environmental friendly technologies. Iran has great resources of fossil fuels and has the second great reservoirs of natural gas in the world. On the other hand, natural gas usage in Iran is far more than average international standard. About 80 percent of electrical power plants in the country are using natural gas as their fuel. Iran Also has a great distributed natural gas network and numerous gas compressor stations for natural gas transmission and more than 85 percent of produced natural gas is consumed by industrial and residential sectors. Continuous and rapid rising in energy consumption rate and dominance of natural gas share in energy basket in Iran, make it necessary to consider the application of energy efficient technologies and solutions for this domain. In this study new methods and technologies for increasing energy efficiency (EE) in natural gas sub sectors are discussed. The paper deals with new improving EE technologies in both delivery and consumption part of natural gas cycle and evaluates its effectiveness according to available infrastructures in Iran.
