Cerebral aiieurysms are dilatations in blood vessels of the brain. It is estimated that approximately 10 in every 100,000 persons per year has cerebral aneurysms and it occurs most often in people between ages 30 and 60 years, Of these, roughly 27,000 patients per year are reported to have ruptured aneurysms. Since ruptures can lead to such conditions as central nerve system (CNS) hemorrhages in subarachnoid and intraparenchymal spaces, the chance of survival, once this occurs, is 50%.
