The results of our study showed that specific outcome measures from the Osteoprobe II? BDI moderately correlate with clinical DEXA measurements of bone density. Using the BDI, energy dissipation in the mid-distal region of the distal radius predicts approximately 40% of the variation in DEXA-BMD, which is modest compared to other predictive instruments such as QCT which have predictive capacities on the order of 75-80% of the true bone strength values [6].
