Comparative Analysis of Project Acquiring Conditions between U.S. and China

The present financial crisis results to the poor state of the U.S. construction market, which provide a rare opportunity for Chinese contractors to have their great-leap-forward development in U.S. market. Therefore, the comparative analysis of the conditions to project acquisition between U.S. and China becomes especially important. By comparison, we could better understand the customary practice of developed countries and grasp the rules and procedures in U.S. construction market, which will help the Chinese contractors to improve competitiveness in the international project contracting market Using bidding method to decide the contractors is a general convention in the international construction market, which is also the most direct route to obtain the project both in the United States and in China. Taking bidding mode as the main line, project acquiring methods, operation processes, and successful tender conditions in US and China were compared and analyzed in this paper, which would help to deepen understanding the conventional practices of Western developed countries. Studying on relevant case, countermeasures and suggestions were also provided to Chinese contractors in the paper, in order to improve their international competitiveness and to facilitate the more effective access to the U.S. construction market.
