Servant leadership is one of the most talked about yet least critically examined human resource skill that managers should obtain. While many people closely identify with this leadership approach, an equal number are cynical and question whether expectations of leaders are realistic.The servant leader is servant first. It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Servant leadership is characterized by a belief that leadership development is an on-going, life-long learning process. Servant leadership covers two areas: Servanthood and Leadership, and the two real barriers to servant leadership are authoritarian hierarchy and egotistic pride.
