It was reported that Laminaria japonica, one of the brown alga, contains mannitol and alginate in the ratioof 8 % and 7% respectively to the gross wet weight. Biomass for the substrate of fermentative hydrogenproduction amounts 15%.In the two, alginate, polysaccharide, is a hard resolution material. It is necessary to make it low molecule.On the other hand, mannitol is easily resolved by bacteria because it is a hexose resemble substance.In addition, Mannitol have fourteen H more than glucose one. And Product By Mannitol is to moreproduce hydrogen than produce by glucose. However, (HN001) whose yield is the best in this laboratorycannot resolve mannitol. Therefore, it screening bacteria for resoluble of Mannitol now and it screeningfor the bacterium that yield of the hydrogen production is higher than that of E.aerogenes that is themannitol resoluble bacterium.E.aerogenes maximum yield of 1.5 mol-H_2 /mol-mannitol was obtained at 37 . and pH 5.5. In this time,the selected bacterium that the maximum yield of 2.3 mol-H_2 /mol-mannitol was obtained at 37 and pH5.5. The bacterium of screening is TM01, TM04 and TMS08.
