Aggressive and determined state and local governments were responsible for recruiting major automobile manufacturer BMW to South Carolina as a provider of new jobs and major boost to the economy. Government must play a similar role in creating a hydrogen economy in South Carolina. Extensive R&D capabilities provides South Carolina with an edge in becoming the first state to develop the hydrogen highway. By providing leadership in the areas of economic development, research, incentives, policies and regulations, state government can pave the way for the hydrogen highway.
