Hydrogen-fuelled motor vehicle engine - uses controlled electrolysis of water to provide hydrogen and oxygen mixture

The engine is supplied with a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen obtained by electrolysis of water on board the vehicle. The gas mixture is regulated by controlling the electrolysis current via a potentiometer. The electrolysis current is provided by a high capacitance 12 volt or 24 volt battery converted and rectified to provide a 220 volt DC. A booster using nitrogen etc. may be incorporated in the gas feed to obtain a combustion temp. of 3350 degrees C. Pref. a gas supply rate of 170 litres/hour is obtained using a water vessel measuring 40 x 30 x 20 cm. The gas pressure is continuously adjustable and is held constant during operation. The drive system is less bulky and heavy thin usual.
