A Coordination Control by Sections on the Trunk Line of Urban Traffic Network

Aiming at the multi-intersections of the urban traffic trunk line, a coordination control by sections is brought forward. The proposed algorithm includes three key steps. Firstly, according to the relativity of each two or three natural intersections on the trunk line, a new intersection is generated, which is thought of as an independent control unit. Some intelligent algorithms are adopted to acquire the signal cycle and green ratio of each new intersection and the phase difference of all natural intersections in the new intersection. Secondly, according to the traffic density of each two new intersection, a coordinated control method is put forward which aiming to each two adjacent new intersections. Then based on the vehicles' numbers in queue between the two adjacent new intersections and the quantity of the waiting vehicles on the phase 3 or phase 5, the green time of the phase 3 and phase 5 is adjusted in the interest of the carrying efficiency on the urban traffic trunk line. Finally, some experiments are included to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. All experiments indicate that the algorithm is effective and feasible.
