Objective : To measure the ultraviolet emission of artificial light sources in daily life, and analyze their potential damage to human skin and protection method. Methods Ultraviolet spectra irradiance of the light sources, including Sunlamps, Blue light lamp used usually in entertainment sites, Mosquito-killing lamp and Antiseptic lamp were measured with Spectra 320 radiometer. Then cosmetic sunscreen was applied on the surface of these lamps and the irradiance was measured again. Results: Sunlamps, Blue light lamp and Mosquito-killing lamp show peaks at approximately 365nm.The maximal irradiances away form 50cm were 3.25μw/cm2, 12.57μw/cm2 and 40.03μw/cm2 respectively. The Antiseptic lamp with maximal peak at 254 nm (UVC), also show peaks at UVB and UVA The irradiances of theses lamps became weak with the increased measurement distances. Conclusions Sunlamps, Blue light lamp used usually in entertainment sites, Mosquito-killing lamp and Antiseptic lamp all emit UVB and UVA with different irradiance. It should be studied further whether the low dose and long time exposure of UVA and UVB can cause a chronic and cumulative damage to human.
