HIGH PRECISION REFERENCE ARTIFACT FOR GEAR CHECKER CALIBRATION

For involute gear checker calibration, involute artifact for profile and helicoid artifact for lead are commonly used. To guarantee tooth form accuracy of gears, there are now three strong demands: (a) to use production gear size artifact for checker calibration, (b) to clarify the uncertainty of measured results and ? to give traceability to the results. But involute artifact has big difficulty, especially for item (b) and ? above. To solve these problems and to achieve far more accurate calibration, the method using Double or Single Ball Artifact (DBA & SBA) is proposed. Concerning helicoid artifact for lead checker calibration, accurate manufacturing and its 3D form evaluation is not easy. To overcome this problem, wedge artifact is proposed. We introduce also here a new design of artifact, that is an integral conuration of ball and wedge artifact into one body: With this artifact, complete calibration of gear checker in terms of profile and lead measurement within several minutes by one button-push of gear checker becomes possible and it can change the situation of workers feeling, that they are reluctant to carry out frequent calibration during gear production.
