摘要

For the design of haptic (tactile) interfaces, it is important to learn how haptic effects are learned, memorized and later used for interaction with computers. To our knowledge, less or little is known about the recognition memory for haptic information. The authors used a recognition memory paradigm to study the interaction of colors on human haptic memory for rough surfaces. The results from sixteen experiments indicate that the interaction of colors on haptic memory is sensitive to color presentation mode. Among the eight pairs of color presentation modes resulting in statistically significant different memory performance, seven pairs are due to the interaction of colors, one pair due to the speed with which the task is completed. It points to the versatility and complexity of colors' interaction on haptic memory, perhaps due to the dynamic involvement of part of visual cortex for both visual and haptic processing.
