A digital automatic measuring system (DAMS) of contact resistance was developed for investigating the relationship between contact resistance and current flow in electrical sliding contacts through continuos measurement of the contact resistance. Cu is tested as a moving and Cu and Ni are tested as corresponding static contacts. The current flow to the contact was 0 [mA] and DC100 [mA], and the sliding contact surface was observed by using optical microscope and CCD camera. The experimental results showed that the contact resistance level increased as the sliding contact rotation number increased, the different relationships were found between the contact resistance and contact materials. And the current flow effect was observed on the contact resistance, which showed that the contact resistance could be maintained at lower level due to current flow.
