MIS and Production Enterprises in FYR Macedonia

As is known, FYR Macedonia is a developing country in transition from the Socialist-Communist economic system to an economic system based upon a market economy. In recent years, many production enterprises in FYR Macedonia have moved toward "computerizing" their businesses. Most often, the program is a calculate and print program for the financial office, possibly including warehouse information. These programs are timesaving devices and not a significant way to improve the economic viability of the company. What is imperative is a MIS for top management where the main decisions are made about production and product placement. This system must give results understandable to top management who may be of various professional profiles. In this paper, we give a general description of how the subsystems of the enterprise contribute information to top management. We further describe what information must be processed from the financial sector in order that top management can, in real time, obtain information about the current status of the business giving indicators concerning liquidity, resource management, risk, etc., an exact financial picture in terms of income and outgo and the relationship between current production/sales with respect to the break-even point.
