This paper represents initial exploration of the relative merits of information literacy development for university undergraduates through stand-alone courses or an across-the-curriculum approach. Reasons for preferring stand-alone courses relate to the a) definition and scope of information literacy; b) rapidly evolving nature of the Web; and, c) various levels of prior exposure to Web-based learning represented among undergraduate students in the U.S.
