Multifunctional systems for drug targeting

Microparticulate drug delivery systems provide the possibility for programmed action as well as for targeted chemotherapy. In order to achieve such performances, the microparticles must carry on their surface a variety of functional elements, each performing a critical task: targeting, macrophage avoidance, cell membrane penetration and the like. In many instances, particles carrying all these elements cannot be prepared by using currently available technologies.
