Abstract: This paper considers the operation of multi-elementradar arrays in the context of Airborne Early Warningapplications. A 2D convolution model is proposed torepresent the transformation of data determined by theexistence of targets characterized by a given relativevelocity and located at a certain angle, into acorresponding Azimuth-Doppler Spectrum. The feasibilityof this interpretation is demonstrated by matching ofthe spectrum generated through convolution with the oneresulting from software simulation of the same targetconditions. Two methods of discrete 2D deconvolutionare explored in an attempt to revert the process,obtaining an estimate of the target characteristicsfrom simulated Azimuth-Doppler Spectra. The advantagesand disadvantages of the methods are reported and thepossibility of using deconvolution to preferentiallyretrieve target components over clutter interference ispresented.!12
