The role of research in practical incineration systems -a look at hte past and the future

The interaction between advances in combustion research,practical demonstratios of incineration technology,and changing regulatiosn over the past 10 years is reviewed.The driving force behind changes in technoogies for the incineration fo hazarodus and municipal waste is the changing regulatory climate.More strignent regulations create the need for better undestanding of all aspects of the combustion process.In thisreview,case studies are employed to demonstreate hwo recent advances in combustion have impacted the desing and operaiton of incinerators,with special emphasis on pollutant minimizaiton,process upsets,and system simulations.
