The method involves monitoring a set of influencing factors (1) e.g. rotation speed profile and fuel quality, before possible occurrence of irregular incineration, where probability of future occurrence of the irregular incineration is dependent on the influencing factors. A set of preventive measures is performed (8) for reducing probability of the future occurrence of the irregular incineration depending on monitored influence factors when the risk factor scale utilizes specified risk or exceeds specified value. The influencing factors comprise one of fuel quality, environmental conditions and operational parameters e.g. rotation speed, load, presence of throttled or unthrottled operation, engine temperature, exhaust gas recirculation rate, injection parameters, adaptation values, of a combustion engine. An independent claim is also included for an engine control equipment for reducing risk of future irregular incineration in an internal combustion engine of a motor car.
