Abstract: Circular grating surface emitting lasers have been analyzed using coupled-mode theory. Based on the assumption that the laser beam is circularly symmetric, the effect of radiation field has been properly included in deriving the coupled- mode equations. The threshold gain and threshold current of a circular grating surface emitting DBR laser has been investigated by using the new formalism. !9
