Abstract: The phthalocyanines form a continuously growing familyof potential photosensitizers. Their chemical andphotophysical properties, and therefore theirphotodynamic activities, are influenced by the type ofthe central metal ion as well as the type andlocalization of substituents. Plasma and tissuedistribution kinetics are also dependent on thechemical features of a dye molecule. We thereforeinvestigated the pharmacokinetics of newly synthesizedocta-$alpha@-butyloxy-zincphthalocyanine(8-$alpha@-bo-ZnPc) on the Lewis lung carcinoma inorder to evaluate the application possibilities of thiscompound in experimental PDT treatments. The zinccomplex was chosen on the basis of the known effect ofthis metal on the photochemical and photophysicalproperties of phthalocyanines. The pharmacokinetics ofocta-$alpha@-butyloxy-zincphthalocyanine were studiedon the Lewis lung carcinoma by absorption spectroscopyin mice. Afterwards a regression analysis was performedusing the absorption spectroscopic data. !19
