The University of Missouri-Columbia is investigating improvements to the Rimfire switch developed by Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) D. R. Humphreys et al., (1985). The University of Missouri Terawatt Test Facility (MUTTS) has been constructed to investigate and optimize the switch, both theoretically and experimentally K. R. Lechien et al., (2003). This paper discusses the development of an advanced circuit model and presents several possible switch modifications including a cascaded electrode geometry, outside dielectric material, and advanced triggering methods. In addition, comparisons to past Rimfire models are discussed
