RECONSTRUCTING FRAGMENT POSITIONS AND VELOCITIES IN WARHEAD ARENA TESTS USING FLASH X-RAY RADIOGRAPHY AND WITNESS PLATES

Flash X-ray radiography of dynamic warhead fragments, with a witnessplate placed in the path of the fragments is often used to obtain velocitydistribution data. This paper describes the geometrical setup and atechnique for matching fragment shadows on the X-ray films with eachother as well as with the corresponding holes in the witness plate. Amethod for three dimensional reconstruction of fragment trajectories isdiscussed.
