As the higher requirements of the safety performance for pedestrian protection by 2018 version of China New Car Assessment Program, the OEMs also prepared different strategies and countermeasures. Recently, the most effective way is the application of the pop-up hood system. The rate of such systems configured in Europe accounts for more than 20%. In China, only limited quantity of the OEMs configured such products. Nevertheless, the majority of manufacturers are still in the process of research and development. If the dynamic test is carried out in the static test area proposed by the protocol, the HIC results will be affected by the vibration of the hood. The head injury criterion HIC (15) is negatively correlated with the duration and positively correlated with the average acceleration. The pop-up hood could not only reduce the injury level of the central part, but also have a good optimization effect for the high-risk area. By analyzing and comparing the test results, it is verified that the performance of hinge, fender and ceramic tape at the bottom of glass can be improved effectively. The injury decrease of pedestrian head optimized by pop-up hood cannot cover the entire bonnet area. On the contrary, for the position with little change in energy absorption space, the damage will increase as the impact angle of the target approaches vertical.
