A novel method to prepare injectable hydrogel through the CaO_2-triggered enzymatic crosslinking reaction of HRP has been developed. The physicochemical properties could be easily controlled by varying the concentration of CaO_2 without compromising the cytocompatibility of hydrogels. The in vitro cell attachment of hDFBs and cell encapsulation of hMSC confirmed the enhanced cellular activities of hydrogels. Moreover, the HRP/CaO_2-croslinked hydrogels accelerated the osteogenic differentiation of encapsulated hMSC. These results suggested that GH hydrogels formed in situ with HRP/CaO_2 as a potentially engineered microenvironment for bone regeneration as well as tissue regenerative medicine applications.
