ESTABLISHING RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN RISK MANAGEMENT AND KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER

摘要

The purpose of this research was to investigate the impacts that knowledge transfer has on risk management capabilities in a project based environment. To this end, a literature review was conducted and a conceptual model was built. This model used lessons learned, best practices, and near misses as focal points for knowledge transfer. For risk management, the planning, identification, analyzing, handling, documenting, and monitoring of risks were used as fundamental components. A hypothesis from the model was tested using a self-administered survey and statistical analysis. The results support the hypothesis that an increase in knowledge transfer will have a positive impact on risk management capabilities in projects. These results have implications for academics and engineering managers by providing evidence of the positive relationship between knowledge transfer and risk management capabilities in a project based environment. This research also provides areas for future research to further understanding in this area.
