In this paper, we consider a data collection from sensor networks by a single unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), where each sensor is also powered by the data-collecting UAV for its signal transmission. In the first phase, the UAV powers all the sensor nodes distributed in a given area through wireless energy transfer (WET), and it collects their data in the second phase. Under the assumption of Rician fading channels, we analyze the outage probability of the network and identify the time ratio of the two phases that minimizes the resulting outage probability. Through the theoretical analysis, we demonstrate that for a given set of target information rate, acceptable outage probability, and UAV location, the achievable service range can be uniquely determined.
