Dynamic Characteristics of Magnetic Levitation Using SC Coil in the Vertical and Horizontal Directions

Superconducting (SC) technique is applied to a SC magnetic levitation system. The levitation system is composed of a SC coil, a copper coil, a levitated object, a photo sensor, a PID controller, and power amplifiers. Persistent current in SC coil and control current in copper coil are used for levitating object and controlling object, respectively. In this paper, large gap trial on the system is performed, and the dynamic characteristics of the levitated object are performed. As a result, it is found that the levitated object continues to levitate at a distance 43 mm for ≈ 14 s. The details of the SC persistent current are discussed. This may be the first trial that SC persistent current is used for a magnetic levitation system.
