Investigating the Effect of Personality Traits on Performance Under Frustration

Life is full of frustration, and the ability to withstand it differs from one person to another. Accordingly, their behavior and reaction vary. This paper is an initial attempt to determine the relationship between the big five personality traits and performance under frustration. We present the design of an educational game that induces frustration within a certain level, to compare the performance under different conditions. A self-assessment test was given to the participants, and bio-sensors were used to detect the effect of frustration on both heart rate and skin conductivity. The results indicated that participants with high extraversion performed better under frustration, while those with high conscientiousness or high neuroticism had a decrease in performance.
