A study on the usability of a jeweller's workbench

Due to the special nature of the job, a long time working of jewellers on the workbench has led to the higher usability and demand of these professionals. Starting from such a concept, the study expects to find out usability issues of the jeweller's workbench through users and to be provided as a reference to related studies and the jeweller's workbench design of future designers. The study is driven by the latest information provided through interviews with experts and a questionnaire survey, with images of existing jeweller's workbenches firstly. To understand the usability issues of existing jeweller's workbench. According to the interviews conducted with experts, the existing jeweller's workbench have failed to meet expectations in terms of comfort level and efficiency, in which case the usability issue needs to be addressed mostly in terms of efficiency of use and subjective satisfaction. A questionnaire survey on usability also indicated similar issues of jeweller's workbench in terms of two usability indexes-efficiency of use and subjective satisfaction. Lastly, two outcomes were derived from the study; one, the key suggestions for the jeweller's workbench design and sequence of various design highlights by importance, the other, suggestions for the measurement guidelines of the jeweller's workbench design including, the height of the jeweller's workbench that users are used to-which is 80-90 cm, length and width they are used to are 99.7 cm and 63.1 cm respectively: a length of 15-30 cm, a width of 8-30 cm and a thickness of 4-8 cm is recommended for the large file bridge, a 10-15 cm length, 5-8 cm width and 3-4 cm thickness for the medium file bridge and 1-10 cm length, 1-5 cm width and 1-3 cm thickness for the small file bridge.
