Methylcyclohexyl diamine (MCDA) is a cycloaliphatic diamine hardener developed as a curative for epoxy resin systems. The cure behavior, mechanical properties, and thermal properties of MCDA-cured systems were assessed and characterized to determine epoxy hardener behavior using various analytical techniques such as differential scanning calorimetry and rheology. Furthermore, application testing indicated that although structurally similar to other cycloaliphatic diamines such as isophorone diamine, MCDA is differentiated in terms of ambient and sub-ambient curing behavior. This paper will compare the characteristics of MCDA with those of other cycloaliphatic diamines.
