With increased switching frequency and multilevel topology, it is possible for a wide-bandgap (WBG) device based converter to be connected to the grid without line filters. In this paper, a high power density filter-less Photovoltaic (PV) inverter is designed and experimentally demonstrated. A design is proposed to completely remove the AC side line filters, and thereby the size and weight of magnetic components are reduced. A 100 kW three-phase two stage prototype has been built in the laboratory, which achieves a power density of 5 kW/kg, and measured CEC efficiency of 99.2%.
