In this paper, the resistance characteristics of tumblehome ship and drag reduction strategies are systematically investigated, based on numerical and experimental methods. By comparing to the experimental results of ship model, the numerical calculation method and mesh generation used in present paper are feasible. Furthermore, drag reduction strategies, such as thebulbous bulb and stern flap were investigated. The resistance reduction or increasing mechanisms for tumblehome ship with different appendages are revealed, by analyzing the resistance components, dynamic sinkage and trim of hull motion, bottom pressure distribution, and side wave profile of the ship and height of rooster tail flow that were obtained through the numerical calculation method. Finally, the rules of each drag-reducing strategy are summarized and the drag reduction effects are evaluated. (Tumblehome is the hull above the water line inclines inward).
