The offer of Engineering Programs in a scenario of Brazilian political and economic crisis: the case of the Federal Institutes

This article aims to outline the scenario of the offer of engineering programs offered by the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education (PSTE) and also discussing the expansion of this network in the last 10 years, highlighting the impact of the Brazilian political and economic crisis started in 2014. It also discusses how the economic growth verified in Brazil in the first decade of the 2000s resulted in a significant increase in the demand for engineers promoting the creation of public and educational policies and enhancing the number of Higher Education Institutions, which promoted some different initiatives by the Ministry of Education, including the creation of the Federal Institutes by the end of 2008 and the decision of offering engineering programs at these institutions.
