This paper includes a brief historical perspective of Propulsion as an academic endeavor at Auburn University followed by a discussion of academic courses, outreach activities, and a more comprehensive discussion of current research related activities. While other departments in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn have developed intellectual activities which support technologies used in propulsion devices, direct propulsion studies for aerospace vehicles at Auburn has primarily been the pursuit of the Aerospace Engineering Department. The scope of this paper will therefore encompass airbreathing and rocket propulsion academic programmatic courses and research activities currently underway in the Aerospace Engineering Department.
