Introduction: Coronary heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Stem cell therapy is a promising strategy to therapeutic heart regeneration. An engineered myocardial graft, composed of decellularized porcine myocardial extracellular matrix (myoECM) scaffold is a mechanically endurable and flexible complex network that preserved the architecture and protein components of the natural heart. The cardiac patch idea usually involves seeding such myoECM with stem cells before transplantation while much has been known that stem cells exert their therapeutic benefits mainly through paracrine effects. To that end, we designed synthetic cardiac stem cells (synCSC). SynCSCs were fabricated by encapsulating stem cell cytokines in a polymeric microparticle and then cloaked with stem cell membrane fragments on the particle surface (Figure 1).
