This work reports the recent advances on the synthesis and characterization of thin Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) films prepared by chemical solution deposition. CZTS colloids dispersed in water-ethanol solutions were used as precursors and prepared by coprecipitation by mixing CuCl2-2H2O, ZnCl2, SnCl2 and thiourea (NH2)2CS in water-ethanol mixtures. The CZTS films were deposited on glass substrates by spin-coating. After being deposited, the films were heat-treated in vacuum at 300-340 °C for 10 minutes. Characterization of CZTS by X-ray diffraction measurements did not give conclusive results, but Raman spectroscopy testified that prepared samples are multiphase comprising probably Cu2SnS3 as an impurity phase and kesterite CZTS as the predominant one.
