In this paper a novel atmospheric-pressure microwave plasma jet is described for use as a microwave scalpel in surgery. The goal is to cut human tissue with a minimum of collateral damage adjacent to the cut. The microwave scalpel has several advantages compared to current electro surgery, in particular that no potentially dangerous currents flow through the patient's body. Experiments have shown the ability of our plasma jet to cut human tissue with good cut performance, which must be further optimized.
