In this paper, a new dual-winding fault-tolerant permanent magnet (DFPM) motor drive with three-phase four-leg inverter is proposed and investigated. The proposed DFPM motor drive with three-phase four-leg inverter offers the advantages of high power density, high efficiency, high utilization rate and high fault-tolerance. To achieve the fault-tolerant performance, a new fault-tolerant control strategy based on the open-circuit fault analysis and processing method is proposed and investigated. The proposed control strategy can realize the fault tolerant control of the open-circuit fault. Then, the operational performance of the DFPM motor drive under open-circuit fault condition has been verified by simulation and experiments. The research results verify the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed the DFPM motor drive with three-phase four-leg inverter and fault tolerant control strategy.
