Calculations of thermal stress and nonlinear soil behavior for mass concrete are separately dealt in traditional methods. Thus, the combined influences cannot be considered simultaneously, and the calculation accuracy is significantly affected, especially when structures are built on soft foundation which has obviously consolidation behavior. This paper presents a new method for calculating displacement and stress distribution of mass concrete during construction on soft foundation with consideration of thermal stress and soil consolidation. The necessity of consideration of "consolidation" is proved using simple 2D cases. A real lock floor program is conducted, and comparisons between with and without consolidation are made. The results show that calculation with consolidation is more realistic. The new method used in this paper is valuable for similar engineering cases for more reasonable design.
