This paper is intended to compare and study the operation of two methods for estimating the position and speed of the rotor salient pole synchronous system in a sliding mode control motor. The first method (MRAS) is based on the dynamic model of the salient pole PMSM, formulated in a reference frame linked to the rotor. The second method, based on a nonlinear Luenberger extended observer is used to estimate the speed and the load torque of the mechanical load from equations of the machine. Simulations results confirmed the feasibility of the sliding mode control of a PMSM sensorless speed provided with two observers MRAS and Luenberger extended and validate excellent dynamic performance.
