The traditional long range rockets are characterized by rear aerodynamicsurfaces that provide both stability and high maneuverability. Yet thisconfiguration has several disadvantages. The most important of which arecomplex structure and high weight, volume and cost.Systems engineering (SE) methodology has been employed to generate abetter cost effective aerodynamic configuration. SE sets a systematic methodof defining the requirements and alternate solutions.The analysis outcome is an aerodynamic platform controlled by canards. Thecanards destabilizing effect allows the use of small control surfaces at thecost of stabilizing an unstable platform. The proposed configuration ischaracterized by low cost, weight and volume.
