Polycrystalline CdTe solar cell performance under high- and low- intensity light irradiance was studied. The effects of light intensity, resistances of the cell components, and shunting paths on the photovoltaic performance were investigated. The experimental results demonstrated that the electrical resistance of the FTO electrode is the limiting factor for the CdTe cell efficiency working under concentrated light irradiance. At light intensity as low as 0.015 Sun, both the fill factor and the open-circuit voltage were found to be critically affected by the shunt resistance. The current shunting depends critically on the physical location of the shunting paths in the CdTe absorber layer.
