This paper highlights the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) as a tool for the landslide risk assessment of the mountain highway connecting Cagayan de Oro City to the province of Bukidnon and its crucial role in Highway and Slope Engineering. The Cagayan de Oro Airport-Bukidnon Highway is a major transportation trunk line interconnected with a network of provincial roads in central and southern Mindanao. Mindanao plays an important role in food security and agricultural economy in the Philippines. Thus, there is a need for a better and safer infrastructure allowing smooth transportation of agricultural products. The aim of the study is to conduct a landslide assessment at site investigation scale of the mountain highway and use the assessment outcomes for specific highway and slope protection. GIS is used to map the preparatory factors that affects the susceptibility of the slope. The geology of the site was determined and a sub-surface geotechnical investigation has been carried out at the site to produce a site investigation scale of assessment. Results of the slope stability analyses conducted at the study area with its triggering factors are used to quantify the landslide hazard.
